My Thinner Vacation

I finally got to my vacation!  I had to postpone it more times than I can count.

I don't know about you, but when I go on vacation, a good bit of my common sense eating practices stay at home.  The end results are happy tastebuds and tight clothes.  My average weekend get-away leaves me 10 lbs. heavier.  Although I can pack it on in just a few days, it takes weeeeeeeeks to get rid of it.  This time, I thought it through.  I'm skipping all of those (ok, most) eating out opportunites and opting to eat lots of fresh salads and lowfat, low calorie, reasonable sodium, portion controlled meals.   I even included one box of dessert.  I stocked up on one of my favorite summer snacks - frozen grapes.  It's like eating a super healthy popsicle.  These may not be the best food choices, but for me it is far better than gaining the excess weight and the pain and discomfort that come with it.  I even went downstairs to the fitness room this morning.

Most of us are more than willing to inconvenience ourselves for the things we really want.  If God asks us to do something that might not be our idea of a fun time, are we going to step out and do it to please Him?  I'm willing to go out of my way to not damage the progress I've made from walking with my friend, Rhonda.  We've both lost weight.  If I'm willing to go through the extra effort for this temporary body, then there should be no limits on what I should be willing to do for my eternal soul.  Now that's something to think about.

Hold On or Be Held?

6/9/2012

Instead of asking for the strength to hold on, sometimes, we just need to ask for grace to be held.  God can hold us in His hand far better than we can hold on to His.  The question is:  Would you rather hold on or be held.  Most days, I think I would fair better being held.

I KNOW I Can Sing!

If this caged bird-with-no-life can sing, surely we can too!  If this bird can "sing" the blues, I KNOW I can sing some praise to my Father for His faithfulness to me - even when I feel caged by the cares of this world.

Thanks to whoever this bird belongs to. :)

How Do YOU Worship?

What are you thinking about when you worship?  Are you singing one thing and really thinking about what the singers in the video below are singing?  If you leave worship time feeling like you were never there - perhaps YOU weren't.

After the commercial, this amusing video truly gives us something to thing about.

Enjoy!

Trust for Four hundred, please

Do you ever get the feeling that you’re on the game show, Jeopardy?  God is so awesome that sometimes He gives us the answer before we know the question.  That’s called God-has-a-plan-for-your-life.  When we’re ready to receive it and everything is in place, He reveals the question and then we realize that God had already given us the answer.

Funny how God works.

Every Word and Every Deed

10/19/2011

Every word and every deed is a lesson to our children.  When we joke about things - our children are listening.  When we complain - our children are listening.  As we work - our children are watching.  When we pray or don't pray - our children are watching.  When we show respect, offer a word of kindness, tell the truth, don't tell the truth, lend a hand without asking for anything in return, pay our tithes with joy - our children are watching, listening, learning.  Even though we may not have spoken a word to our children, please know that every word and every deed is a lesson that will shape the life of that child.
