I finally got to my vacation! I had to postpone it more times than I can count. I don't know about you, but when I go on vacation, a good bit of my common sense eating practices stay at home. The end results are happy tastebuds and tight clothes. My average weekend get-away leaves me 10 lbs. heavier. Although I can pack it on in just a few days, it takes weeeeeeeeks to get rid of it. This time, I thought it through. I'm skipping all of those (ok, most) eating out opportunites and opting to eat lots of fresh salads and lowfat, low calorie, reasonable sodium, portion controlled meals. I even included one box of dessert. I stocked up on one of my favorite summer snacks - frozen grapes. It's like eating a super healthy popsicle. These may not be the best food choices, but for me it is far better than gaining the excess weight and the pain and discomfort that come with it. I even went downstairs to the fitness room this morning. Most of us are more than willing to inconvenience ourselves for the things we really want. If God asks us to do something that might not be our idea of a fun time, are we going to step out and do it to please Him? I'm willing to go out of my way to not damage the progress I've made from walking with my friend, Rhonda. We've both lost weight. If I'm willing to go through the extra effort for this temporary body, then there should be no limits on what I should be willing to do for my eternal soul. Now that's something to think about. |
