Few things to remember ...
  • 6 x 9 is a standard trim size that will work well with most books.
  • 6 x 6 trim size works well for women's conferences, etc. as a giveaway or for sale.
  • 6 x 6 is not a good size to use if you intend to have the reader write in the book.
  • If you wish to have the reader write in the book, e.g., workbook, 7.5 x 9.25 or 8.5 x 11 are best suited for that.
  • Your book should have no more than two typefaces (fonts) - 3 at the absolute most. Two is the industry standard and should be sufficient. A standard font for your content and one other as an accent.
  • Avoid chunks of italics and/or bold type.
  • Not everything requires and exclamation point. There should be only a few in your book.
  • If you are using a block paragraph and spacing between each paragraph, then don't indent. If you are using indents, then don't put spaces between the paragraphs. Do one or the other. Not both. However, there may be a specific reason to use both. Generally, it will be when there is a time gap or something of that nature. The better bet would be to pick one or the other.
